By The Numbers | Crew face Revs on Saturday in New England

After pummeling Sporting Kansas City in last week’s homecoming at Lower.com Field, the Columbus Crew return to the road Saturday night to face the New England Revolution.

Numbers to Know

5 – Fifth in the Eastern Conference, the Crew have won five-of-their-last-six league matches and enter Saturday with 30 points from 17 games. Officially at the midway point in the regular season, head coach Wilfried Nancy and his players all believe the adversity the Club’s handled to date will lead to a successful second half of the campaign. “The adversity that they faced was really good for them to learn about what they are capable of as a player but also as a human being,” Nancy said. “We're going to face a lot of adversity, but what can we do to go over that? I'm proud of them. Again, this is the middle of the season, don't get me wrong, we'll see in one month, but I like to live in a present moment.” The present says the Crew are hot and are about to go play a team near the bottom of the conference.

9 – No. 9 has nine goals for the Crew through 12 league matches thanks to his hat trick against SKC. Cucho Hernández rattled off a first-half brace before a clever free kick in the second half to seal the 4-0 win. Cucho has five goals in the last three games and continues to be prolific as he climbs the Club’s leaderboards. Despite playing only 44 Crew matches across all competitions, Cucho now ranks sixth in team history with 44 goals, surpassing Edson Buddle and Justin Meram, who had 43.

12 – New England enters Saturday night sitting 12th in the conference with 19 points from 17 games. However, this isn’t the Revs from the early goings of 2024. Head coach Caleb Porter has led the group to three-straight wins, including a 2-1 victory at 10-man FC Cincinnati last Saturday night. With wins over FCC, Nashville SC and New York City FC in the last three games, the Black & Gold will be clashing with a club in similar form. Bring it.

2 – Giacomo Vrioni deserves a mention thanks to his two goals against Cincinnati at TQL Stadium last week, but Crew supporters will also want to keep an eye on their former coach. Porter is in his first season with the Revolution after spending four years in Columbus between 2019-2022. Of course, he was the team’s coach when it won its second MLS Cup in 2020 after beating Seattle Sounders FC, 3-0, at Historic Crew Stadium.

When They Last Met

Columbus won, 2-1, when the teams last played at Gillette Stadium on Oct. 4, 2023. That night, Diego Rossi opened the scoring in the 20th minute to give the visitors the lead. Tomás Chancalay scored the equalizer three minutes into the second half, but Malte Amundsen grabbed the game winner in the 86th minute to seal three points.
