By The Numbers | Crew face league-leading Miami on Wednesday

With wins in four-consecutive road games, the Columbus Crew look to win a fifth straight on Wednesday night when they face the Eastern Conference-leading Inter Miami CF in a massive midweek matchup.

Numbers to Know

6 – The Columbus Crew sit sixth in the Eastern Conference with 27 points from 15 games – the fewest number of matches for any team in MLS. This will also be the sixth-straight road game for the club since it last played at Lower.com Field on May 11. During this stretch, Columbus has won every road match in league play and could earn a fifth-straight road win on Wednesday night at Miami. Regardless of that result, this has been a tremendous run that’s included championship-winning numbers both in attack and defensively. In the last four road wins, the Black & Gold are averaging 2.75 goals per match. Defensively, opponents have averaged one goal a game on their home soul against the Crew in that stretch. That sort of ratio is fantastic in all environments – but especially so away from home.

400 – There’s no such thing as too much love and appreciation for Darlington Nagbe. Assuming he plays on Wednesday night at Miami, Nagbe will achieve his 400th MLS regular season appearance. The Crew captain will be just the 10th player in league history to achieve this feat. Nagbe, who’s made 13 appearances this season, has made 129 league appearances for Columbus since he joined the team in 2020. Of course, he’s won two MLS Cups during his time, too.

1 – Inter Miami leads MLS with 38 points through 19 games. However, it should be said the club’s played more matches than anyone – including four more than the Crew. But Miami is Miami, even if Lionel Messi is missing this match to represent Argentina in the 2024 Copa América. The side is unbeaten in its last 13 league games and has scored 44 goals. For context, Real Salt Lake has the second-most with 36, and no Eastern Conference side has more than 29. The Argentine might be absent, but that doesn’t mean this Miami team lacks the potential to be prolific. However, of Miami’s 44 goals, Messi has scored 12 times, in addition to 13 assists. Luis Suárez, who is also at Copa América, has 12 goals and five assists. More than half of the team’s goals have been scored by players unavailable Wednesday night.

10 – As mentioned, Messi and Suarez will be unavailable, but plenty of Miami players can step up. Leo Campana has four goals and an assist, while Jordi Alba has two goals and five assists. Former Crew wingback Julian Gressel has played in every Miami league match this season and scored in the Floridian club’s 2-1 win at the Philadelphia Union on Saturday night.

When They Last Met

The clubs drew, 2-2, in the last meeting at Miami on July 4, 2023. That night, Darlington Nagbe and Christian Ramirez scored for the Crew, while Leo Campana and Josef Martínez grabbed the goals for the Herons.
