A year of giving forward: Highlights from Crew SC's community outreach

2015 was a busy season for Columbus Crew SC both on and off the field. In addition to making a run all the way to the MLS Cup final, Crew SC players spent a lot of time volunteering in the community as part of the club's "Give Forward" initiative, which is sponsored by MAPFRE Insurance.

Chief among them was forward Kei Kamara, who was named the 2015 MLS WORKS Humanitarian of the Year for his community outreach in Columbus as well as his native Sierra Leone.

Along with making various appearances at local schools and visiting children at Ronald McDonald House and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, players took part in renovation projects at the Milo-Grogan Boys & Girls Club and Gladden Community House. They also participated in the Crew SC Foundation’s inaugural FootGolf Classic, raising more than $23,000 to provide programming designed to change young lives through a passion for soccer.

Crew SC staff also pitched in throughout the year including serving lunch at Faith Mission and packing boxes for soldiers overseas at Operation Buckeye. During the holidays the team delivered Thanksgiving meals to families in need and partnered with the Salvation Army of Central Ohio to participate in its annual Red Kettle campaign and Christmas Cheer event.
