A little bit of magic comes along when the U.S. Men’s National Team plays at MAPFRE Stadium. The Stars and Stripes put up impressive numbers on Tuesday night, and they extended beyond the 4-0 win on the pitch.
The World Cup qualifier against Guatemala broke a a few records, including ESPN’s most-watched CONCACAF semifinal round match. The ESPN2 telecast logged an average audience of 954,000 viewers, surpassing the previous high 902,000 viewers set on September 11, 2012. That 1-0 win for the U.S. over Jamaica in the third round of qualification was also played at MAPFRE Stadium.
Columbus led the charge for the top-10 markets on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s website. The full list can be viewed here.
In addition to setting the largest-margin of victory by the Red, White and Blue at MAPFRE Stadium (previously 3-0 versus Grenada on June 13, 2004), USA versus Guatemala topped the WatchESPN charts as well. It was the most-watched FIFA World Cup qualifier on WatchESPN, totaling 43,000 average minute impressions with 152,000 live unique viewers and 6.1 million live minutes viewed.
