Gyasi Zardes - 11.15.19 - USMNT

Forward Gyasi Zardeshas been nominated alongside five other players for U.S. Soccer's Male Player of the Year award, the governing body announced Tuesday afternoon.

This year, Zardes led all U.S. Men's National Team scorers with six goals, doubling his career total (12). The 28-year-old, who has scored 33 total goals for the Columbus Crew over the past two seasons, recorded two multi-goal games for the USMNT this year, including a brace and the game-winning goal in a 4-1 win over Canada in Concacaf Nations League group play.

Zardes is the second consecutive Crew player to be nominated for the award, with goalkeeper Zack Steffen winning the award in 2018.

Votes for U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year award are collected from respective National Team coaches, National Team players who have earned a cap in 2019, members of the U.S. Soccer Board of Directors, U.S. Soccer Athletes’ Council, American soccer league (MLS and USL) head coaches, select media members and former players and administrators.

Voting for the awards starts today and closes on Dec. 6, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The winners will be announced during the second week of December.
