Nobody in Major League Soccer does it like Lucas Zelarayan.
This was evident no more so than in the Crew’s 2-1 win over 2021 MLS Cup Champion, New York City FC.
Zelarayan’s pair of free kick golazos stunned NYCFC. The first came in the 82nd minute to tie the match at 1-1, and his second was a walk-off, game-winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
It was a night of sheer brilliance from the Crew’s number 10, who finished 2021 with 12 goals and seven assists. Five of his 12 goals came on free kicks - the second-most free kick goals in an MLS season since 2003.
