Study up ahead of Thursday's Stage 2 of the 2017 MLS Re-Entry Draft

NEW YORK(Thursday, December 21, 2017) – Major League Soccer announced the players eligible for Stage 2 of the 2017 MLS Re-Entry Draft, which takes place at 2 p.m. ET today.


Stage 1 of the 2017 MLS Re-Entry Draft saw Columbus Crew SC acquire midfielderMike Grella via trade with the Colorado Rapids â€” who selected Grella in the Draft.


Players eligible for selection include:


  • Option Decline Players: Those not eligible for Free Agency who will be at least 23 years old in 2017, with a minimum of three years of MLS experience
  • Out of Contract Players: Those not eligible for Free Agency who have not received a bona fide offer and who are at least 25 years old with a minimum of four years of MLS experience, or are at least 30 years old with a minimum of eight years of MLS experience


The Re-Entry Draft selection order is determined by the reverse order of the final 2017 standings, taking into account postseason performance (see below). Players not selected following Stage 2 will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to all clubs.

The Major League Soccer regular season will kick off with Crew SC opening their season on the road at Toronto FC on March 3, 2018. Following that 2017 Eastern Conference Championship rematch, Crew SC returns to MAPFRE Stadium to host the Montreal Impact on March 10, 2018. 


In 2017, Crew SC returned to the postseason for the third time in four years and reached the Eastern Conference Championship for the second time in four seasons under Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter. A complete 2018 Crew SC preseason schedule will be available in the near future. Additional information for purchasing single-match tickets for all Crew SC regular-season home matches will be released at a later date.
