Inaugural MLS NEXT Pro Champion Columbus Crew 2 Host Home Opener At Historic Crew Stadium Against New England II

COLUMBUS – After securing five points in their first two matches, highlighted by a 1-0 win at Chicago Fire II this past Sunday, the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro champion Columbus Crew 2 return to Historic Crew Stadium for their home opener against New England II at 1 p.m. on Sunday [MLS Season Pass on Apple TV].

During pregame, Crew 2 players, staff and supporters will experience the official unveiling of the 2022 title shield, earned by MLS’ first franchise during MLS NEXT Pro’s first-ever season. It will be displayed on the southeast façade of the upper level of Historic Crew Stadium, joining the imagery that commemorates the Crew First Team’s 2008 and 2020 MLS Cup victories; 2004, 2008 and 2009 MLS’ Supporters Shields; and 2002 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championship.

Additionally, fans in attendance will have the opportunity to participate in an autograph session with Crew 2 players following the match.

“Crew 2 had an incredible first season on the pitch, but what stands out to me most was how much our team grew throughout the year both as a cohesive unit and as individuals,” said Assistant General Manager, Columbus Crew and General Manager, Crew 2 Corey Wray. “Sunday’s home opener will be a special moment to highlight our collective successes from last season and what’s ahead for our club, as well as to share it with our passionate supporters.”

“We are very excited to be back at Historic Crew Stadium in front of our amazing fans,” said Columbus Crew 2 Midfielder and Captain Marco Micaletto. “There was a lot of history created inside the stadium before we started playing and in 2022, we were able to create our own bit of history. We are eager to create more memories together with our supports, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the home opener on Sunday.”
