Columbus Crew SC today announced that it has promoted Assistant Athletic Trainer Jon MacGregor to the position of Head Athletic Trainer and has hired Chris Shenberger to the Assistant Athletic Trainer position on Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter’s First Team technical staff.
MacGregor joined the Black & Gold ahead of the 2015 (shown with midfielder Tony Tchani in 2015) campaign after spending four-and-a-half years with Vancouver Whitecaps FC, where he served as the First Team Assistant Athletic Trainer and Head Athletic Trainer for their residency program. He has been involved with Major League Soccer since 2010.
Prior to his time with Vancouver, MacGregor worked two full seasons and six training camps with the NFL's Seattle Seahawks. MacGregor holds a master's degree in Sports Management from Southern New Hampshire University and a bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from Boise State University.
Shenberger joins Crew SC after spending four years at Northwestern University as the Associate Athletic Trainer for the Men’s Soccer Team. Before his tenure at Northwestern, he was the Head Athletic Trainer for Case Western Reserve University.
Shenberger has also regularly worked with U.S. Soccer at the youth level since 2007. He has a master’s degree in Athletic Training from Georgia State University and a bachelor’s degree from Capital University in Athletic Training.
Both MacGregor and Shenberger are currently with the club in Sao Paulo, Brazil for the 2017 preseason.
