Crew SC loans Obinwa to Pittsburgh on game-by-game basis

Columbus Crew SC today announced that it has loaned midfielder Abuchi Obinwa to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the United Soccer League on a game-by-game basis. Per the Right of Recall incorporated in the loan agreement, Crew SC retains the right to recall the player at any point during the MLS regular season, subject to MLS roster compliance guidelines.


Obinwa officially signed with Crew SC on January 25, 2017. Before joining the Black & Gold, he spent two seasons with Hannover 96 of Germany from 2014-16 playing for their Under-19 side in the U-19 Bundesliga North/Northeast division. Prior to his time abroad, the midfielder was a highly-touted youth prospect and a member of Chicago Magic PSG, an affiliate club of French side Paris St. Germain. In 2013, Obinwa was named the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s U-15/16 Central Conference Player of the Year.


Led by Head Coach Dave Brandt, the Riverhounds begin their 2017 season on March 25 with a home contest against the New York Red Bulls II.
