2018 Season Rewind

2018 Season Rewind | Steffen, Zardes take home League year-end awards

Gyasi Zardes - 11.4.18 - New York Red Bulls - Celebration

Columbus Crew SC goalkeeper Zack Steffen capped off a personal record-setting season as Major League Soccer's Goalkeeper of the Year and Gyasi Zardes posted a career season following injuries en route to earning the League's Comeback Player of the Year award.

With a career-low 37 goals allowed in 2018, Steffen became the second-youngest goalkeeper in MLS history to earn the award and the second in Club history (Brad Friedel).

Steffen's regular-season success continued into the MLS Cup Playoffs, highlighted by two penalty-kick saves against D.C. United...

...And a couple game-saving denials against the New York Red Bulls in Leg 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Zardes became the first player in Club history to garner Comeback Player of the Year with a career-high 19 regular-season goals before finishing the 2018 campaign - including playoffs - with 20.

Following a career regular season, Zardes' form continued into the MLS Cup Playoffs with a game-winner against the Red Bulls on Nov. 4 at MAPFRE Stadium.
