COLUMBUS – Columbus Crew today announced that five Black & Gold players have received an international call-up from their respective national teams: Luis Diaz (Costa Rica), Derrick Etienne Jr. (Haiti), Liam Fraser (Canada), Alex Matan (Romania) and Eloy Room (Curacao).

Diaz is set to join the Costa Rica National Team ahead of a Concacaf Nations League semifinals match against Mexico (June 3). The winner of the match would advance to the finals of the Concacaf Nations League. Additionally, Costa Rica is also set to play the U.S. Men’s National Team in an international friendly (June 9). To date, Diaz has earned four caps with Costa Rica’s senior team and most recently saw on-field action against Qatar during a friendly last year (November 13).
Etienne Jr. joins the Haiti Men’s National Team for 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying First-Round matches against Turks and Caicos (June 5) and Nicaragua (June 8). Etienne Jr. has earned 22 caps with Haiti while also scoring three goals. The midfielder last featured for Haiti in a 2019 Concacaf Nations League match against Costa Rica (November 18).
Fraser is slated to travel with the Canada Men’s National Team for 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying First-Round matches against Aruba (June 5) and Suriname (June 8). Fraser has earned four caps with Canada, while scoring one goal. He most recently made an appearance for Canada in a friendly against Iceland last year (January 16).
Matan is set to join Romania’s Under-23 National Team for friendlies against Mexico’s U-23 squad (June 5) and Australia’s U-23 team (June 8). The midfielder most recently featured for Romania’s U-21 squad at the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championships, making three appearances (all starts) while scoring one goal and providing one assist.
Room will travel with the Curacao Men’s National Team to Guatemala for a 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying First-Round match against the British Virgin Islands (June 5) before facing Guatemala in Willemstad, Curacao (June 8). The goalkeeper has earned 36 caps with Curacao, most recently starting in a World Cup Qualifier against Cuba earlier this year (March 28).
The Crew’s current roster features 11 players that have previously received at least one call-up for their respective senior national teams: Harrison Afful, Luis Diaz, Derrick Etienne, Jr., Waylon Francis, Liam Fraser, Perry Kitchen, Jonathan Mensah, Kevin Molino, Darlington Nagbe, Eloy Room and Gyasi Zardes.
