MLSsoccer.com today announced Columbus Crew SC defender Jonathan Mensah to its Team of the Week for Week 29 following the Black & Gold’s shutout draw on the road against the Western Conference leaders in FC Dallas on Sept. 19.
The nod marks the first of the season for Mensah, who made his 22nd start of the year on Saturday as he anchored a backline that held FC Dallas to two shots on goal. The scoreless affair marked Dallas’ first time this season being held scoreless at Toyota Stadium. Mensah totaled 53 touches and 38 passes for a 97.4 percent passing rate.
Crew SC currently harbors the best defense on the road, with League-leading marks in shutouts (6), goals allowed (16), and shots on target conceded (48).
Up next, Crew SC heads to Portland for a midweek match on Wednesday, Sept. 19, with kickoff slated for 10:30 p.m. ET.
Columbus' next home match takes place on Saturday, Sept. 22 at MAPFRE Stadium, against the Colorado Rapids as part of Hispanic Heritage Night, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
