On the heels of the highly anticipated Battle of Unbeatens last Saturday (May 29) against Los Angeles at Crew Stadium, the Crew takes to the road for a pair of matches this week before the 2010 FIFA World Cup break, tonight (June 2) at San Jose and Saturday (June 5) Colorado.
Tonight’s match kicks off at 10 p.m. ET and Saturday’s at 9 p.m. ET and both will be televised live regionally on ONN-TV, with Dwight Burgess and Dante Washington calling all the action. Both games can also be heard in English on News/Talk 610 WTVN with Neil Sika behind the microphone, as well as in Spanish on La Mega 103.1-FM, featuring Carlos Cordova and Benny Pietrangelo on the call.

San Jose, which currently sits tied for third place (with Houston and Colorado) in the Western Conference with a 5-3-1 record (16 pts.), enters the match after falling to Toronto FC, 3-1, last Saturday (May 29), with its lone goal coming from midfielder Ramiro Corrales. The ‘Quakes are led offensively this season by forward Chris Wondolowski’s five goals and Bobby Convey’s six assists.

Colorado (5-3-1, 16 pts.), enters the match after defeating Seattle Sounders FC, 1-0, thanks to an unassisted strike from Conor Casey in the 63rd minute. Casey leads the club in goals this season, with four, while he and Mehdi Ballouchy share the team lead in assists with one apiece.

The Crew, which currently sits in first place in the Eastern Conference with a 6-1-2 record, enters its slate of matches this week after suffering its first defeat of the 2010 season, a 2-0 setback to the LA Galaxy last Saturday (May 29), before a season-high 18,139 fans at Crew Stadium. The Crew saw its four-game winning streak snapped despite outshooting the visitors 21-3 and earning 15 corner kicks to the Galaxy’s 0.

Fans can check out both of this week’s matches at Claddagh Irish Pub (585 South Front Street in the Brewery District), which features each Crew away game on numerous televisions throughout the bar, and also airs live audio from the telecast. The Crew Soccer Academy traveled to Sarasota, Fla., last weekend (May 29-31) for the annual U.S. Soccer Development Academy Spring Showcase, as it took on North Meck SC, Crossfire Premier and Albertson SC during Memorial Day Weekend at the Sarasota Polo Club. Both teams started the weekend by taking on North Meck SC on Saturday (May 29), with the 15/16 squad playing to a scoreless draw and the 17/18s earning a 1-0 win over its counterparts from Florida, thanks to a strike from Alex Obbey. Both teams had Sunday off before returning to the pitch Monday (May 31), to face Crossfire Premier. The 15/16s fell by a score of 2-1, with CSA’s lone goal coming from Rhodes Moore, followed by the 17/18s, who earned a decisive 2-0 win over Crossfire, thanks to goals by Alex Obbey and Will Trapp. CSA wrapped up regular season play in the U.S. Development Academy on Tuesday (June 1), with matches against Albertson SC. The 15/16s kicked off with a 3-1 setback to Albertson, with their lone goal coming from Chris Dave, followed by the 17/18 squad, which earned a 2-1 win behind goals from Aaron Horton and Vaughn Spurrier. The CSA 15/16 squad finished the regular season in second place in the Great Lakes Division with a 6-2-2 record (11-8-3 overall), securing an automatic berth in the Development Academy Playoffs, while the 17/18s finished third in the Great Lakes with a 5-4-1 record (13-6-3 overall), which places them in contention for one of 12 wild card spots in the Playoffs.

Crew Stadium will host the first-ever USA 7’s Rugby Collegiate Championship Invitational, a Rugby Sevens round-robin tournament which will feature 16 teams, including Ohio State and Bowling Green, this weekend (June 4-6). The USA 7’s Rugby Collegiate Championship Invitational will be broadcast live nationally on NBC this Saturday, June 5 and Sunday, June 6, from 4-6 p.m. ET, while Universal Sports will air coverage on those days from 2-4 p.m. ET. Rugby Sevens will be an Olympic sport starting in 2016 and the Invitational offers fans a preview of the talent pool available to the U.S. Olympic team.
