Here are the storylines from Montreal you should keep an eye on:

History Lesson

Last season, Crew SC and the Impact met three times. The first meeting of the 2016 MLS regular season left the Crew SC at a 2-0 at Olympic Stadium on April 9. About a month later, the two Eastern Conference clubs exchanged blows to end in a 4-4 draw at MAPFRE Stadium on May 7. In their final meeting, on June 18, the two teams again ended in a draw at MAPFRE Stadium, neither team finding the back of the net.

One of the most memorable head-to-head collisions between the teams â€” surely setting the tone for all future matchups, at least from the stands â€” came in the 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs' home-and-away Eastern Conference Semifinals. To quote MLSsoccer.com's Matchcenter recap from the second leg:

In a dramatic and controversial match that needed an extra time winner, Columbus Crew SC beat the Montreal Impact 3-1 at MAPFRE Stadium to clinch a berth in the Eastern Conference Championship against the New York Red Bulls.

In a nutshell, Crew SC hosted Montreal at MAPFRE Stadium while facing a 2-1 deficit â€” take note of that all-important away goal that Federico Higuain scored in the first leg. Ethan Finlay forced extra time with a 78th minute equalizer that led to an eventual 111th minute winner. All in all, Columbus used this series to somersault into eventual 2015 MLS Cup finalists.

Making an Impact

Midfielder Ignacio Piatti is tied with Anthony Jackson-Hamel for most goals this season, with three apiece. The 32-year-old Designated Player, who is known for his skills in creating and finishing opportunities, was named Montreal’s MVP in both 2015 and 2016. Within the past two seasons, he's netted 26 goals and added 14 assists.

Another player who could potentially make an impact is the recently aquired Swiss international midfielder, Blerim Dzemaili. He is a winner of two Coppa Italias, two Swiss league titles, two Swiss Cups, one Turkish league title and one Turkish Cup.

Dzemaili is available for selection and to potentially debut after he arrived from Italian side Bologna on Tuesday.

Let’s get MontREAL

The Impact have proven to be inconsistent in their 2017 MLS regular season so far. They have yet to develop a consecutive win or loss streak, they've lost home matches and secured unexpected points on the road. Last week they finally acquired their first clean sheet and road win of the season thanks to 18-year-old Ballou Tabla, who scored the game winner.

With a touch of some spicy history and contrasting tactics, all-out attacks and the need for points now, something unexpected wouldn't actually be so unexpected between these two teams.

Crew SC next visits the Montreal Impact on May 13 before visiting Toronto FC on May 21 and the New England Revolution on May 26.
