The Black & Gold are back home at MAPFRE Stadium to host the reigning 2016 Major League Soccer champion Seattle Sounders FC, for a 7:30 p.m. ET midweek matchup on Wednesday, May 31. This will be the only meeting between the two clubs and the 12th all-time regular-season meeting between the cross-conference rivals.

Here are the storylines you should keep your eyes on:
Take a seat, Seattle
The Black & Gold will host the reigning 2016 Major League Soccer champion Seattle Sounders FC. The Crew SC hold an overall 3-5-3 record against the Sounders, but they have enjoyed their time at MAPFRE Stadium this season with their 4-2-1 record at home. The Black & Gold will also aim to use their home turf to their advantage against the Sounders, who hold a 1-4-2 record on the road this season.
This time, it counts
Crew SC collided with the Rave Green in its 2017 preseason finale, securing the Carolina Challenge Cup trophy via a 1-0 scoreline. 2017 MLS SuperDraft selection Niko Hansen's debut goal cemented Crew SC's unbeaten preseason (2-0-1, 7 points in the Carolina Challenge Cup).
The lineups will most likely look quite different than they did in late February. For perspective, here's how the two sides lined up in the preseason friendly (with unlimited substitutions):
Columbus Crew SC: Zack Steffen; Jukka Raitala (Connor Maloney 72’), Jonathan Mensah, Nico Naess, Harrison Afful; Wil Trapp (c), Mohammed Abu; Justin Meram (Niko Hansen 72’), Federico Higuain (Lalas Abubakar 87’), Ethan Finlay; Adam Jahn.
Substitutes not used: Logan Ketterer
Seattle Sounders FC: Stefan Frei; Joevin Jones, Chad Marshall, Roman Torres, Gustav Svensson; Osvaldo Alonso (Harry Shipp 62’), Cristian Roldan; Alvaro Fernandez, Clint Dempsey (Harry Wingo 80’), Nicolas Lodeiro; Will Bruin
Substitutes not used: Tyler Miller, Brad Evans, Seyi Adekoya, Jake Morris, Tony Alfaro, Zach Mathers, Bryan Meredith, David Olsen, Sam Rogers, Jake Morris, Brian Nana-Sinkam, Darrius Barnes, Jordy Delem, Oniel Fisher
See you soon, Sounders
The two clubs met once during the 2016 regular season at Century Link Field on April 30, 2016. Despite starting strong and controlling the majority of the game, the Black & Gold headed home with a 1-0 loss in the books. The lone goal came in the closing minutes of the match when then-rookie striker Jordan Morris sprung on a loose ball and found the back of the net for the game-winner in the 88th minute.
Crew SC won 3-2 in the only meeting between the teams two years ago at MAPFRE Stadium, which ended a three-game winning streak for the visiting team in the series. It was Crew SC’s first win against the Sounders on its home turf.

After the midweek clash with Seattle, Columbus will travel to face the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, June 3, with a 9 p.m. ET kickoff. A June 17 match in Atlanta against MLS-expansion side Atlanta United comes next with a 7 p.m. ET kickoff. Crew SC next plays the Montreal Impact at MAPFRE Stadium on Saturday, June 24 with a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff. Enjoy half-off select beers (for supporters ages 21-and-over), Pepsi products, brats and pretzels through the 15th minute.
