Columbus Crew SC Academy players Aboubacar Keita and Sean Zawadzki are currently representing the Black & Gold in U.S. Soccer’s three-team training camp for the U.S. Men’s Youth National Teams, which kicked off Friday, Jan. 4 at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
Zawadzki was called up to participate in the U-19 Men’s National Team camp after an impactful freshman season as a midfielder at Georgetown University. Zawadzki, a native of Olmsted Falls, Ohio, was a four-year starter and two-year captain with the Crew SC Academy while making 13 starts on 21 appearances for Georgetown to go with one assist in 2018. Zawadzki helped lead the Bulldogs to a second-consecutive BIG EAST Championship - marking the first back-to-back feat in program history - while ending the year on the conference's All-Freshman team.
Keita was called up to the U-20 Men’s National Team camp ahead of an important summer for the age group, as the U-20 MNT qualified for this summer’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland after winning its second-straight CONCACAF U-20 Championship last November. Keita, a Columbus, Ohio native, started in each of his 17 games played at the University of Virginia, totaling one goal as a defender. Keita helped lead the Cavaliers to the Atlantic Coast Conference title match before bowing out in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
As part of the camp, the U-19 and U-20 MNTs are slated to face each other on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 4 p.m. ET. The three-team training camp is scheduled to end Sunday, Jan. 13.
