RECAP: Crew topped by D.C. United, 3-1

5.4.19 Recap

A pair of video-reviewed calls played a key role in Columbus Crew SC's (4-6-1, 13 pts.) 3-1 loss to D.C. United (6-3-2, 20 pts.) on Saturday, May 4 at Audi Field.

RECAP: Crew topped by D.C. United, 3-1 -

With the game still scoreless through the match's opening quarter, Pedro Santosdrove the ball to the near post and into the back of the net in the 21st minute for what appeared to be the game's opening tally, but after video review, the goal was called back due to a foul in the development of the play.

Moments after play had resumed, D.C. United broke the draw when Luciano Acosta followed up on a deflection on a set play. Then, just before the end of the half in the fourth minute of stoppage time, D.C. United's Wayne Rooney converted on a penalty kick after video review ruled that midfielder Wil Trapp committed a handball in the box.

Paul Arriola brought D.C. United's lead to three when in the 61st minute he drove the ball to the far post after a deft drop pass from Leonardo inside the box. Crew SC responded in the 75th minute, however, when D.C. goalkeeper Bill Hamid let the ball slip through his hands and into the net from a Robinho corner kick.

Up next, Crew SC looks to bounce back as the Club returns home to face the LA Galaxy at MAPFRE Stadium on Wednesday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
