Sporting Director & Head Coach Gregg Berhalter
On his team’s performance:
“Part of the management of this is that 2-1 is a decent result. We got the road goal. We all know they count away goals, so it was a big goal and I think we’re in a decent position.”
On his team’s offensive play:
“I thought it could have been better. Montreal’s a good defensive team. I think we were close, but it wasn't altogether there. I think the start was very good; we had a couple of opportunities and in the second half it might have been too little.”
On the mistake leading up to the second goal.:
“Soccer is a game of mistakes and a game where every action makes a difference. So no matter how small that action is, it can have an effect on the game. We came out with the right intentions, we wanted to put Montreal on their heels, we wanted to play offensive soccer and we wanted to dominate the game.”
Captain & DefenderMichael Parkhurst
On looking ahead to the Second Leg:
“The second goal was ridiculous, but it still puts us in a good position going home. We know that we need to win the game and if we don’t win at home we don’t deserve to go on.”
On his team’s defending:
“I thought for the most part, we neutralized their counter attack. They had a couple of chances here and there, but that’s their main way of attacking. I thought for the most part we were pretty organized.”
Midfielder Tony Tchani
On preparing for the second match:
“We just need to be smart. We kind of let ourselves go a little bit because we were into the game so much. I think we just need to settle down at times and just try to figure how things are going on and try to play our style of game.”
On creating more offensively:
“We just need to be patient and move the ball from side to side, get crosses in and get shots. The more shots you take and the more crosses you get into the box, I think we could have one or two chances that go in.”
