COLUMBUS – Columbus Crew SC Captain and midfielder Wil Trapp will represent Ohio, Columbus Crew SC and his country on the United States Men’s National Team preliminary roster for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
USMNT Coach Bruce Arena named Trapp to the 40-player roster on Saturday afternoon ahead of Crew SC’s match in Colorado.
This is the fourth U.S. Men's National Team call-up for Trapp, the Homegrown player from Gahanna. He was last called up for January camp in early 2017.
Before his experience on the senior Men’s National Team, Trapp earned caps for the Stars & Stripes on the Under-23 and Under-20 national teams in both Olympic qualifying and the U-20 World Cup.
The 24-year-old owns 15 starts and appearances this season in MLS action for the Black & Gold while recording two assists and six shots, three of them being on goal.
According to U.S. Soccer, the preliminary roster is due to be trimmed to 23 players by June 27. All players on the final roster must come from the preliminary roster. Gold Cup Training Camp will begin in Nashville, Tenn., on June 25 before the United States takes on Panama in the opening round of the tournament in Nashville on July 8.

Crew SC next faces a June 17 match in Atlanta against MLS-expansion side Atlanta United comes next with a 7 p.m. ET kickoff in regular-season action. Crew SC next plays the Montreal Impact at MAPFRE Stadium on Saturday, June 24 with a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff.
