Meram, Iraq fall to Qatar in friendly match

Columbus Crew SC midfielder Justin Meram and Iraq were defeated by Qatar in Doha Monday, 2-1, in an international friendly.

Meram played the entire second half for the Lions of Mesopotamia—who lose their second straight match to Qatar in the countries' first meeting since 2012—and registered an assist on Jasem Mohammad's (75th) goal. Iraq, however, could not overcome the Maroons’ early two-goal advantage, after the home-side took the lead behind Rodrigo Barbosa Tabata (38th) and Ali Assadalla (50th).

Meram will be back in action for the Black & Gold this Saturday, when East-leaders New York City FC visit MAPFRE Stadium for the second time this season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
