CREW SC LOOKS TO TAKE SEASON SERIES AGAINST UNION

Columbus Crew SC plays its 29th 2015 Major League Soccer regular-season match and its 14th on the road by visiting the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, September 12. The teams have split the season series thus far, with Crew SC winning by a 4-1 score at MAPFRE Stadium on April 25, and the Union earning a 3-0 victory on June 3 at PPL Park. All-time, Crew SC is 9-4-1 against the Union, tied for the most points-per-game it has notched against any current MLS opponent.

SCHOENFELD APPROACHING 50TH APPEARANCE

Forward Aaron Schoenfeld has made substitute appearances in each of Crew SC’s last two contests, at New York City FC (August 29) and vs. FC Dallas (September 6). His next appearance for the Black & Gold will be his 50th all-time with the club. Against Dallas, the forward recorded three shots for Crew SC in the second half, tying the second-most he has ever notched in a regular-season contest. Schoenfeld’s career best in the category is five, set on October 19, 2014 at Red Bull Arena when he recorded his first regular-season brace.

KAMARA NOW HOLDS TWO BLACK & GOLD SINGLE-SEASON RECORDS

On August 29 at Yankee Stadium, forward and current MLS League-leading goal-scorer Kei Kamara registered four shots, extending his season total to 117. That edged Stern John’s 116 in 1998 for the most-ever in a single Crew SC MLS regular season. On August 22, by recording two shots on goal against Sporting Kansas City, Kamara increased his season total to 48, setting a new all-time Black & Gold single-season club record. Kamara’s season total is currently at 49, surpassing Stern John’s 47 shots on goal in 1998.

HIGUAIN HITS 250 SHOTS, IS TWO APPEARANCES FROM 100

Against FC Dallas on Sunday, Designated Player Fedrico Higuain recorded his 250th shot for the club, which ranks sixth in club history. He is two appearances away from 100 for the club and in MLS. Against New York City FC on August 29, he recorded a goal and an assist (the game-winning assist, to Justin Meram). In doing so, Higuain moved up a notch in the club record books in all three categories. His goal broke a tie with Guillermo Barros Schelotto in all-time club goal-scoring with his 34th, moving into solo sixth place in club history. Higuain’s assist broke a tie with Brian West, moving the Argentine into solo sixth place in club history in that category as well, with 30. The game-winning helper at Yankee Stadium was the Designated Player’s ninth all-time, breaking a tie in that category with Simon Elliott and Brian Maisonneuve to move into fifth place in all-time Black & Gold history.

CLARK NEARING GRUENEBAUM

Goalkeeper Steve Clark is now one win shy of tying Andy Gruenebaum for fourth place in club history at 26 wins. Clark recorded his 25th all-time win in Black & Gold at Yankee Stadium on August 29, making three saves.

FINLAY GOES FOR 20 AND 20

After his goal against Sporting Kansas City on August 22, midfielder Ethan Finlay is now just one goal short of becoming just the seventh player in club history to register 20 career goals and 20 career assists (Jeff Cunningham, Brian McBride, Eddie Gaven, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Federico Higuain, Brian Maisonneuve).

AHEAD OF THE PACE

With six matches to go in the 2015 regular season, Crew SC’s record of 11-9-8 (41 points) is ahead of last season’s mark to this point in the year, which was 9-9-10 (37 points). Crew SC currently ranks third in the Eastern Conference behind D.C. United (44 points, 28 games) and the New York Red Bulls (42 points, 25 games).
