Five Columbus Crew Players Receive National Team Call-Ups

COLUMBUS – Columbus Crew goalkeepers Nicolas Hagen and Patrick Schulte, Homegrown midfielders Taha Habroune and Aidan Morris, and forward Jacen Russell-Rowe, and Crew Academy defender Tristan Brown have been called-up by their respective national teams for the upcoming FIFA International Break.

Schulte and Morris have been selected to United States Under-23 side’s 22-player roster for a training camp in Spain and France as the USA continues its preparations for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The U.S. will face Guinea on Friday, March 22 in Olot, Spain and France on March 25 in Montbeliard.

This summer marks the return of the U.S. Men’s Olympic Team to the Games for the first time since 2008. The Men’s Olympic Soccer Tournament is restricted to players under the age of 23, with an allowance for three overage players.

Both Schulte and Morris took part in the U.S. Men’s National Team’s January Training Camp earlier this year, marking Schulte’s first senior call-up while Morris took part in the 2022 edition.

Russell-Rowe has been selected to Canada’s 23-player roster for the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League Play-In at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas on March 23. The one-game playoff will serve as a qualifier to the 2024 Copa América this summer. Canada plays Trinidad & Tobago for one of the final two Concacaf spots in the 2024 Copa América, jointly organized by CONMEBOL and Concacaf.

Russell-Rowe made his senior national team debut in Canada’s Concacaf Gold Cup opener, entering in the second half of a 4-2 win over Cuba on July 4, 2023, and appeared in three tournament matches. Most recently, the 21-year-old was called-in for Canada’s Concacaf Nations League matches against Jamaica in Nov. 2023. The Crew forward has earned four senior caps to date.

The winner of the Play-In match will join already qualified Concacaf countries (Jamaica, Mexico, Panama and the United States), along with the winner of the additional playiIn match on March 23 between Honduras and Costa Rica, for a total of six Concacaf guest nations in this summer's tournament. Should Canada qualify, they will be placed in Group A alongside Argentina, Chile and Peru. They will also feature in the tournament’s debut match against the current world champions Argentina.

Hagen has earned 35 senior caps for Guatemala, most recently starting in a friendly against Iceland on Jan. 13, 2024.

A Guatemalan Youth international, Hagen appeared in the 2021 and 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, as well as 2022 World Cup Qualifying matches. He made his senior national team debut on Aug. 18, 2018, during an international friendly against Cuba.

Habroune joins the U.S. U-19 team for a pair of international friendlies in Rabat, Morocco. The U-19s face England on March 24 and Morocco on March 26. Both matches will take place at Morocco’s National Training Center in Rabat. The USA is preparing for this summer’s Concacaf U-20 Championship in Mexico, which will send four nations to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

The rookie Homegrown midfielder most recently represented the U.S. in the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia. He played in all three group stage matches (two starts) and helped propel the U.S. into to the knockout rounds. In the Round of 16 match against Germany, Habroune scored the opening goal for the U-17s in their 3-2 loss to the eventual champions. Habroune has 11 total caps for the U.S., netting four international goals.
