FAST FACTS: "Cucho" Hernandez

By Carlos Mojica

  • A dangerous and unpredictable forward, Juan Camilo “Cucho” Hernandez joins the Crew after playing for Watford F.C. in the Premier League.
  • The transfer of Cucho marks the largest acquisition fee in Club history, breaking the previous Club record set by the acquisition of midfielder Lucas Zelarayan. Both signings have occurred under the leadership of the Haslam, Johnson and Edwards families.
  • In 2021, the forward became the first Colombian player to score in his Premier League debut when he struck the game-winning goal just 49 seconds after coming off the bench against Aston Villa (August 14). The goal displayed both his long-range shooting prowess, as well as his ability to create space for himself.
  • Following the end of the 2021-2022 season, Hernandez was awarded Watford's Goal of the Season award for a bicycle kick strike in a match against Arsenal FC, showcasing his agility and ability to conjure up moments of brilliance.
  • At just 23 years old, he has already scored against some of the best clubs in the world including Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal and Valencia.
  • In addition to playing in the Premier League, Hernandez has experience playing in LaLiga, Spain’s topflight. During his time in La Liga, the forward played for Getafe CF, RCD Mallorca and S.D. Huesca.
  • The forward became the first Colombian player in the 21st century to register two assists within the first 45 minutes of a LaLiga game during a 2020 home match against Real Betis.
  • He is one of only five players in La Liga history to score as a visiting player at both Camp Nou (FC Barcelona’s stadium) and Estadio Santiago Bernabeu (Real Madrid’s stadium) in one season before the age of 20. Additionally, he is the first player since Argentine forward Sergio Aguero to accomplish the feat and the first Colombian player to do so.
  • Hernandez is the third Colombian player in Club history, following in the footsteps of John Wilmer Perez and Sergio Herrera.
  • The forward represents the Colombia National Team and scored two goals in his debut, including the game-winner in a 3-1 win against Costa Rica.
