The Columbus Crew announced today that it has signed Argentine midfielder Santiago Prim, who will occupy one of the team’s international roster spots and be eligible for selection upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and visa. Per club and league policy no further terms of the deal were disclosed.

The Crew announced concurrently that Danny O’Rourke has been placed on the Disabled List. The veteran defender/midfielder continues to rehabilitate his left knee after undergoing surgery on it last November.

Prim, 20, comes to the Crew after spending the last two seasons with San Lorenzo de Almagro, the famed Buenos Aires club that produced such talent as Ivan Cordoba and Jose Luis Chilavert. The Campana, Argentina, native made his professional debut on Sept. 26, 2009 in a 3-2 win over Tigre of Victoria.

“Prim is a talented young player,” said Crew head coach Robert Warzycha. “He has a lot of potential. He can shoot from distance and his work rate is very good. He is a good midfielder who can really change the game when he’s on the field.”

Prim first joined the Crew on trial during its preseason trip to Arizona, where he impressed the technical staff over the course of five preseason appearances.
