Crew SC to host second annual College Combine on December 14

Adam Bedell

Columbus Crew SC announced today that it is hosting its second annual College Combine event, bringing in a group of draft-eligible college players for an evaluation of some of the top young talent in the region ahead of the 2015 Major League Soccer SuperDraft. The event is being run by Crew SC’s First Team technical staff on Sunday, December 14 at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center at The Ohio State University.

“We are lucky to be located in an area with so many quality college programs,” said Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter. “As we experienced with Adam Bedell last year, the combine provides a great opportunity for players coming out of these programs to be evaluated by our technical staff and potentially earn a roster spot and playing time with the Columbus Crew SC First Team.”

Players are selected based on Columbus Crew SC First Team scouting, consultation with youth staff and local college coaches.

At the inaugural club combine held last December, the club’s technical staff identified University of Detroit Mercy forward Adam Bedell (above), a player who had not been invited to the MLS Combine in January. Bedell was then selected in Third Round (45th overall) in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft on January 21, 2014. In his rookie season, Bedell saw significant playing time, making 16 appearances and scoring two goals.
