COLUMBUS – After two straight road games on the West Coast, the Crew (3-3-4, 13 pts.) returns home this Saturday, May 28, at 7:30 p.m. to face Western Conference foe Chivas USA (3-4-3, 12 pts) at Crew Stadium.
The
match will be televised live regionally on ONN with Dwight Burgess and
Duncan Oughton calling all the action and Katie Witham reporting from
the sidelines. It will also be broadcast in high definition exclusively
to Time Warner Cable Mid-Ohio customers in Columbus on Ch. 1311. The
game can be heard in English on News/Talk 610 WTVN and on-line at
TheCrew.com, with Neil Sika and John Bluem behind the microphone, and in
Spanish on La Mega 103.1, with Carlos Cordova and Benny Pietrangelo on
the call.
The
Black & Gold is still undefeated at home (3-0-2) and looks to
bounce back from a 1-0 setback suffered at Portland last Saturday (May
21). It will face a team led by former Crew defender Robin Fraser, who
took over the reins of the Goats in the offseason.
Chivas
USA is coming of a 1-0 loss in the ‘Superclasico,’ as games against its
intra-city rival LA Galaxy are called. Chivas is led offensively by
former Crew forward Alejandro Moreno, who is tied for the team lead in
goals scored (3, with Justin Braun), and in assists (2, with three other
players). Their roster also features former Crew midfielder and New
Zealand international Simon Elliott.
The
last time the teams met they battled to a scoreless draw at Home Depot
Center on April 9. The Black & Gold’s all-time record against Chivas
at Crew Stadium is 3-1-2, with the last victory being a 1-0 decision on
May 15, 2010.
The
Crew will travel to New York twice next week, first for a Reserve
League match on Monday, May 30, and then on Saturday, June 4, for the
second-regular season encounter with the Red Bulls.
The
Black & Gold returns home for back-to-back matches against Real
Salt Lake on Wednesday, June 8, and the Chicago Fire on Sunday, June 12.

CREW MIDFIELDER ROBBIE ROGERS CALLED UP TO NATIONAL TEAM DUTY
Crew
midfielder Robbie Rogers has been named to the 23-man U.S. National
Team roster for the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Rogers will join his
teammates in Cary, N.C., following the Chivas USA match to prepare for
the tournament, and will be on hand for the final tune-up match against
Spain on June 4 before beginning the Gold Cup against Canada in Detroit
on June 7.
FORWARD TOMMY HEINEMANN NAMED TO MLSSOCCER.COM BEST XI FOR WEEK 10
Crew forward Tommy Heinemann was named one of MLSSoccer.com’s Best XI this week for his performance against Portland last Saturday (May 21). According to the League’s website Heinemann “showed a great deal of promise in his first start. Active, tireless and solid in the air.”
FIRST EVER NORDECKE CUP TAKES PLACE AT CREW STADIUM SATURDAY
The
Crew’s three official supporters groups will descend on Crew Stadium
this Saturday, May 28, for the Inaugural Nordecke Cup. Twelve teams,
representing the Hudson Street Hooligans, Crew Union and La Turbina
Amarilla, will battle it out for bragging rights and a trophy from 10
a.m. to 4 p.m. before the Crew-Chivas USA match.
CREW SOCCER ACADEMY 15/16s AND 17/18s SPLIT MATCHES AT OBETZ
The
CSA 15/16s and 17/18s hosted Michigan’s Vardar and the newest partner
of the Crew Soccer Academy, Michigan Wolves, this past weekend at the
Crew Training Center at Obetz. On May 21, the 15/16s lost to Vardar,
2-1, with Quinn Miller scoring the lone goal for CSA. On Sunday, May 22,
the leaders of the 15/16 Central Conference Great Lakes Division
proceeded to defeat the Wolves, 2-1, behind goals by Jeremy Fernandes
and Ray Olavarria. On May 21, the 17/18s topped Vardar, 6-2, with a
hat-trick by Brett Elder, a brace by Christopher Davis and a lone goal
by Rhodes Moore. The next day, the 17/18s dropped a 3-1 decision to the
Wolves despite Conor Klekota’s temporary game-tying goal. The CSA teams
return to action after Memorial Day weekend as they visit Sockers FC at
Northern Illinois University on June 4, and FC Milwaukee at its complex
in Wisconsin on June 5.
CREW SOCCER ACADEMY AND CREW JUNIORS TRYOUTS BEGIN NEXT WEEK
The Crew Soccer Academy and the Worthington, Phoenix and New Albany Crew Juniors will begin holding tryouts for all their teams from U7 to U19 next week. Tryouts begin on or around June 1 and are open to boys and girls who are born between August of 1992 and July of 2005. CREW FREESTYLE SOCCER TRYOUTS TO BE HELD FRIDAY AT CREW STADIUM
The
Columbus Crew is looking for talented and outgoing individuals who can
perform freestyle soccer tricks. Tryouts for the Crew Street Team will
take place at Crew Stadium this Friday, May 27, at 4 p.m. Performers
selected will work as part of the Street Team and represent the Crew
