Columbus Crew 2 adds two defenders to roster

COLUMBUS – Columbus Crew 2 announced today that it has signed defenders Jacob Erlandson and Philip Quinton to MLS NEXT Pro professional contracts pending league and federation approval. Contract terms were not disclosed. The Black & Gold selected Quinton in the First Round (25th overall) and Erlandson in the Second Round (40th overall) of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, Quinton represented the University of Notre Dame from 2018-2021, making 58 appearances while registering two goals and two assists. In addition to serving as the captain during his senior year, the defender was also named to the following end-of-season Best XI teams during his tenure at Notre Dame: 2021 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Tournament Team (2021), All-ACC Third Team (2021) and TopDrawerSoccer’s Postseason Best XI First Team.

Erlandson, a native of Dayton, most recently played for Bowling Green State University from 2020-2021, making 32 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing six assists. During his time as a Falcon, the defender was named to the All-Mid-American Conference First Team (2021) while also being named Bowling Green’s 2021 Newcomer of the Year.

Crew 2 kicks off the 2022 MLS NEXT Pro regular season on the road against Inter Miami CF II at DRV PNK Stadium on Saturday, March 26 at 6:00 p.m. ET. The match will be available via live stream on mlsnextpro.com. Ticketing information for the 2022 season will be announced at a later date.
