Black & Gold by the Numbers: Two MLS debuts

Cristian Martinez PHIvCLB

Crew SC is returning empty handed from its trip to Philadelphia, but for two members of the Black & Gold the 3-2 loss to the Union will be a match to remember. Here’s a break down of the match by the numbers.

1

Two young Black & Gold players made their MLS debuts tonight, Ben Swanson (18 years old) and Cristian Martinez (19). Martinez also notched his first club and League goal in stoppage time of the second half on a diving header.

2

Midfielder Ethan Finlay assisted on both Ola Kamara and Cristian Martinez’s goals. This was Finlay’s first multi-assist match since Crew SC's 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls on October 19, 2014.

4

Crew SC goalkeeper Steve Clark racked up four saves in the match against the Philadelphia Union. This was the sixth time this season that Clark has made at least four saves.

6

Columbus Crew SC has scored six goals in its last two matches. The Black & Gold last reached that mark in their last two games of 2015 in a 2-0 win at Toronto and a 5-0 win over D.C. United at MAPFRE Stadium.

19

With his goal, Martinez became the youngest player to score for Crew SC at 19 years, three months and 26 days. Eddie Gaven set the previous record on July 4, 2006 at 19 years and 252 days.

87

Black & Gold striker Ola Kamara netted his fourth goal of the season in the 14th minute. The goal marked his fourth in 87 minutes after scoring a hat trick in last week’s 4-3 win over Real Salt Lake.
