Black & Gold conclude California trip with friendly vs. LAFC

Jon Kempin - June 23, 2018 - LAFC

Following a 1-0 win over Liga MX side Club Tijuana on Jan. 31, Columbus Crew SC wraps up the west coast portion of preseason training with a closed-door friendly today, Monday, Feb. 4 against fellow MLS side LAFC at 5 p.m. ET.

The second-year expansion club recently prevailed 4-1 over Japanese side Vissel Kobe on Jan. 31, led by a pair of goals from Mexican international Carlos Vela.

As for the Black & Gold, the Club comes into its third preseason friendly with two shutouts, including a scoreless draw against Vissel Kobe on Jan. 28.

With nearly two weeks of preseason training under his belt, head coach Caleb Porter is certainly enjoying getting back into the swing of things.

“I’m like a kid in the candy store,” Porter said. “It’s been awesome, just doing what I love. It doesn’t feel like a job to me. This is what I love to do, everyday planning training, being on the training pitch, also just going through a process; I love the process of building, then executing, and then reflecting and then correcting, and then building again.”

Monday’s competition is the Crew’s last preseason match before Feb. 16’s friendly against the Chicago Fire in Charleston, S.C., as part of the 2019 Carolina Challenge Cup.
