2018: Crew SC's U.S. Open Cup History

With the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup coming up, check out the Black & Gold's history through 20 competitions — including 2002's iconic trophy-raising campaign:


​In 16 out of 20 total Open Cups, Crew SC has made it past the Fourth Round. 


Six times the Black & Gold have started the tournament in the Round of 32, playing a lower tier team. Crew SC’s record is 5-2-0 in this scenario.


Crew SC has played an Tier II club (previously known as NASL, A-League and then USL-1) team 10 times in Open Cup history, holding a 7-2-1 record against the Division II teams. In Columbus, the Black & Gold are a perfect 5-0-0 against Tier II squads.


In the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, against second division teams, the Black & Gold have a +11 goal differential, outscoring their opponents 21-10


Against all lower tiered soccer teams, Columbus is 14-2-1 in the Open Cup.


At home, against all level teams, Crew Soccer Club is 14-6-1.


Columbus enters the 2018 tournament in celebration of its Open Cup championship campaign's 16th anniversary.


All Open Cup matches that Columbus is drawn to host will be played as true home matches at MAPFRE Stadium — the site of Crew SC's 2002 U.S. Open Cup Final victory. All 2018 Crew SC Season Ticket Members receive tickets to all Crew SC U.S. Open Cup matches through the quarterfinals as part of their memberships.


The winner of the U.S. Open Cup qualifies directly for the CONCACAF Champions League with a chance to qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup against world-powers and other regional champions.
