Shannon Murray - Assistant Coach

Shannon Murray was named Assistant Coach of the Columbus Crew on July 14, 2026. Murray joined the Club from the Portland Timbers, where he served in various roles with the organization’s First Team and Timbers2 since March 9, 2016. Murray helped the Timbers reach two MLS Cups (2018, 2021) and six playoff appearances (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2025, 2026), as well as win the MLS is Back Tournament in 2020.

Murray holds a USSF “A” license and has been with the Timbers First Team coaching staff since 2018, starting as a video/data analyst before transitioning into an assistant coach role. He was also an assistant coach with Timbers2 for two seasons (2016-17).

Before his time in Portland, Murray spent two seasons as an academy coach with Seattle Sounders FC. Additionally, Murray has been a member of U.S. Soccer’s National Coaching Education staff since 2011. 

A graduate of the University of Washington, Murray previously was the technical director for Evergreen Soccer Club and the director of coaching education for Washington Youth Soccer. Prior to beginning his career in coaching and education, he played six professional seasons in the A-League and Continental Indoor Soccer League.
