Dr. Pete Edwards — Investor - Operator

Columbus Crew Investor-Operator Dr. Pete Edwards is a nationally recognized orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist with more than 30 years of experience at the highest levels of athlete care, clinical leadership and sports health advocacy. A member of the Crew since their launch as MLS’ first club in 1996, he is a founding partner of Orthopedic One, now one of Ohio’s largest physician-owned orthopedic practices, who specialized in foot and ankle surgery and sports medicine for professional, collegiate and youth athletes.

Dr. Edwards became a minority owner of the Crew on January 1, 2019, when Haslam Sports Group (HSG) – led by the Haslam and Johnson families – officially acquired MLS operating rights of the Club. A key ambassador for the ultimately successful “Save the Crew” movement, HSG and Dr. Edwards fostered pivotal support from Columbus’ civic and corporate leadership, inspired by passionate Black & Gold fans, to ensure the franchise remained in its rightful home following discussions of potential relocation. As part of the historic moment, the Club with the backing of city, county and state partnerships constructed world-class venues of the OhioHealth Performance Center and ScottsMiracle-Gro Field, where the organization lifted the 2023 MLS Cup, Leagues Cup 2024 and 2021 Campeones Cup trophies and hosted the 2024 MLS All-Star Game and numerous international soccer competitions that celebrate the global game and produce substantial economic impact in the region. The Crew also won the 2020 MLS Cup at Historic Crew Stadium, the home of Crew 2, the Columbus Aviators and annual marquee events like Sonic Temple, Breakaway Music Festival and various concerts, OHSAA events and more.

From 1996 to 2019, Dr. Edwards served as the primary team physician for the Crew, supporting player health, injury prevention and return-to-play protocols across 23 seasons as the Club claimed the 2008 MLS Cup, three Supporters’ Shields (2004, 2008 and 2009) and the 2002 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. He also acted as team physician for the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team from 1998-2010 and was venue medical director and team physician for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Columbus in 2003.

Dr. Edwards earned his Bachelor of Science in biological sciences and Master of Science in Preventive Medicine & Public Health from The Ohio State University. He received his M.D. with Honors from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, completed his orthopedic surgery residency at West Virginia University and pursued dual fellowships in Sports Medicine at the University of Oklahoma and Foot & Ankle Surgery at Union Memorial Hospital in Maryland.

Beyond sports and medicine, Dr. Edwards is deeply involved in philanthropic initiatives throughout Central Ohio. He is a board member of the Edwards Family Foundation, the Columbus Zoo and the Columbus Medical Association Foundation, as well as Campaign Co-Chair of the Adaptive Sports Connection Capital Campaign. Dr. Edwards previously served as a Campaign Chair for United Way of Columbus Tocqueville Society. In addition to championing youth sports participation, he advocates to raise awareness and support for pediatric cardiology, which has immediately impacted his family.

Dr. Edwards and his wife, Dr. Christine Edwards, reside in Columbus, Ohio. They are the proud parents of four children – Katherine, Alison, Caroline, and Pete – and loving grandparents to three grandchildren.
