DAVID ACCAM SCORES SECOND CONSECUTIVE GOAL FOR CREW SC


Midfielder David Accam scored Crew SC’s first goal in Tuesday’s 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 match against Atlanta United. The goal marked his second consecutive goal in as many U.S. Open Cup matches this year, as the midfielder had previously scored the game-winning goal against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (Fourth Round - June 11). Accam’s goal came in the 40th minute when he received a cross from Luis Argudo inside the box before sending the ball past Atlanta’s Brad Guzan. In 2019, Accam has made four regular-season appearances (three starts) for Crew SC, while providing one assist. Additionally, Ac- cam made two U.S. Open Cup appearances (both starts) while scoring two goals.


LUIS ARGUDO MAKES FIRST START OF 2019 FOR THE CREW


Midfielder Luis Argudo made his first start of 2019 for Crew SC in Tuesday’s 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup home contest against Atlanta United. Argudo also registered one assist, as he provided the helper on David Accam’s 40th-minute goal by crossing the ball into the box. Argudo played 82 minutes, registering 41 touches, attempting two crosses, making three tackles and creating two goal-scoring chances. Since joining the Black & Gold ahead of the 2018 season, Argudo has made 23 regular-season appearances (six starts). Argudo also made two appearances (one start) in the 2019 U.S. Open Cup.


WAYLON FRANCIS RETURNS TO ACTION FOR CREW SC FOLLOWING INJURY


Defender Waylon Francis made an appearance in Tuesday’s 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 match against Atlanta United. Francis’ appearance marked the first time he has played for the Crew since May 8, following a left thigh injury. Francis came into the match as a substitute for Harrison Afful in the 70th minute. Francis created the play that resulted in Crew SC’s second goal, a minute after taking the field, as he attempted a cross which Brad Guzan was unable to parry, pulling one back for the Crew to make it 3-2. In 2019, Francis has made 11 regular-season appearances (all starts) to go along with one appearance in U.S. Open Cup. Overall, Francis has made 94 regular-season appearances (86 starts) for the Black & Gold, while providing 18 assists.


CREW SC TRIO FEATURED IN U.S. MNT 2019 GOLD CUP OPENING MATCH


Zack Steffen, Gyasi Zardes and Wil Trapp all registered a cap with the U.S. Men’s National Team during the Americans’ 2019 Gold Cup opening match on Tuesday night against Guyana. Steffen and Zardes started for the Stars and Stripes, with Steffen posting a shutout while Zardes scored a goal. Wil Trapp made a substitute appearance, coming into the match for Michael Bradley in the 62nd minute of the match, wearing the captain’s armband for the remainder of the contest. The match marked Steffen’s 11th cap, Zardes’ 46th cap and Trapp’s 18th cap with the U.S. The contest resulted in a 4-0 win for the Americans, who are currently in first place in Group D, ahead of Panama on a two-goal differential.


GYASI ZARDES SCORES FOR U.S. MNT


Gyasi Zardes scored the third goal for the U.S. Men’s National Team in Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Guyana. Zardes’ tally came in the 55th minute, marking the eighth time that he has scored for the Stars and Stripes. To date, Zardes has earned 46 caps with the U.S. since making his debut in a friendly against Chile on January 28, 2015. Zardes joined Crew SC ahead of the 2018 season and has made 48 regular-season appearances (all starts) for the Club while scoring 25 goals and providing one assist.


ZACK STEFFEN REGISTERS SHUTOUT FOR U.S. MNT


Zack Steffen registered a shutout for the U.S. Men’s National Team in Tuesday’s 4-0 victory over Guyana. Steffen registered one save en route to recording his third clean sheet with the U.S. To date, the goalkeeper has earned 11 caps with the American squad since making his debut in as a substitute in a friendly match against Bosnia-Herzegovina on January 28, 2018.


JONATHAN MENSAH FEATURES FOR GHANA AGAINST SOUTH AFRICA


Jonathan Mensah recently started for the Ghana National Team in a friendly contest against South Africa (June 15) in preparation for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. The defender helped the Black Stars earn a shutout in their 0-0 draw against South Africa. To date, Mensah has earned 58 caps for Ghana since making his debut in a friendly match against Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2010 (March 3). Since joining Crew SC ahead of the 2017 season, Mensah has made 68 regular-season appearances (66 starts) while scoring three goals and providing one assist.


ABOUBACAR KEITA HELPS U.S. REACH FIFA U-20 WORLD CUP QUARTERFINALS


Defender Aboubacar Keita started every match for the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team during the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, helping the American squad reach the quarterfinals of the tournament. Keita, 19, made five starts for the U.S., helping the Stars and Stripes register two shutouts and upsetting France – one of the teams favored to win the tournament – along the way. The Crew SC Academy product joined the Crew’s First Team ahead of the 2019 season.


ROBINHO: IRON MAN


Midfielder Robinho has featured for Crew SC in every competitive match since the beginning of the 2019 season, the only player to do so for the Black & Gold. In his 1,003 minutes of regular-season action – seventh-most for the team – Robinho leads Crew SC in attempted dribbles (82) and is tied with Waylon Francis and Wil Trapp in tackles won (21) for the Club. Additionally, he is in second place for the Crew in attempted dribbles (37) and tackles (35). Robinho joined Crew SC ahead of the 2019 season and has made 16 appearances (12 starts) and provided two assists in regular-season action, while making two appearances (one start) in the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.


CREW SC TO HOST CELEBRATION OF WOMEN IN SPORTS AT MAPFRE STADIUM


Crew SC is set to host Celebration of Women in Sports at MAPFRE Stadium on Sunday, June 23 during a home contest against Sporting Kansas City. The event will feature a guest appearance by former U.S. Women’s National Team player, three-time Olympic Gold Medalist and 2015 World Cup Winner Shannon Boxx. Additionally, there will be a Mini-Ball Giveaway, presented by OhioHealth, for the first 5,000 kids aged 14 and under to arrive to the stadium.


CREW SC TO HOST “STUFF THE STADIUM” AT MAPFRE STADIUM THIS SUNDAY


Columbus Crew SC is set to host its “Stuff the Stadium” backpack drive this Sunday, June 23, at MAPFRE Stadium, prior to its home match against Sporting Kansas City at 5:30 p.m. ET. Crew SC supporters who bring a new backpack stuffed with school supplies to Gate 5 of MAPFRE Stadium will receive a voucher for a free ticket* to the match against Sporting Kansas City. The event is part of Crew SC's Give Forward initiative, presented by MAPFRE Insurance. “Stuff the Stadium” is being held to support "Stuff the Backpack" in collaboration with local TV station NBC4 in Columbus. Supporters may bring backpacks and supplies beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET. All supplies collected will go to 25 local school districts throughout Franklin County and Licking County.
