As part of Columbus Crew SC’s Women in Sports celebration on Sunday, June 23, the Black & Gold are paying homage to the vital role women play in sports and the values they propagate for the sake of something larger than themselves, with Crew SC Investor-Operator Dee Haslam standing amongst the Club’s foremost influential women as the first female on Major League Soccer’s Board of Governors.
Earlier this year, Haslam joined the Greater Columbus Sports Commission for the Ninth Annual Women in Sports Report, as she recounted her journey in the world of professional sports and the importance of Columbus’ role in the community, from past to present.
"The Columbus Way is truly amazing," Haslam said. "Everybody is collaborative here. Everybody wants to see things get done...that doesn't happen in a lot of communities, so it's truly amazing how everything works together and how everyone is on the same page."
"The Columbus Crew is important for this community and I think everybody realized how important it was, but that 'can-do' attitude of what's best for our community is very rare and very exciting to be a part of," Haslam continued.
"We have so much to learn about the game, but we do understand how important it is to take care of our fans, we understand that part. We do understand giving back to the community.”
Crew SC’s celebration of women in sports comes to the forefront on Sunday, June 23 as former U.S. Women’s National Team member, Olympian, and World Cup champion Shannon Boxx is scheduled to make an appearance during the Crew's match against Sporting Kansas City, which kicks off at 5:30 p.m. ET.
