CREW SC BEATS MONTREAL

Crew SC hosted the Montreal Impact at MAPFRE Stadium this past Saturday for its 2018 MLS regular season home opening match. The Black & Gold took a lead in the 11th minute, when Federico Higuain converted a penalty kick in the 12th minute. Three minutes later, Gyasi Zardes tapped in a deflected cross to extend Crew SC’s lead and make it 2-0. The Impact struck back in the second half, with Ignacio Piatti scoring in the 59th minute before Raheem Edwards equalized for Montreal in the 85th minute. Zardes scored the game-winning goal in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time, after converting a penalty kick following a foul on Luis Argudo inside the Impact’s box. With the win, the Black & Gold extended its regular-season unbeaten streak to 12 matches dating back to August of 2017.

UNBEATEN STREAK REACHES 11

With the win over the Montreal Impact this past Saturday, Crew SC extended its regular-season unbeaten streak to 12 matches, dating back to a 3-1 home victory over the Chicago Fire on August 12. Over that span, the Black & Gold have posted a record of 8-0-4 while outscoring its opponents 24-12.

UNDEFEATED AT HOME IN LAST NINE

With the win over the Montreal Impact on Saturday, Crew SC extended its unbeaten streak at MAPFRE Stadium to nine matches (regular-season and post-season), dating back to a 1-0 home victory over the Philadelphia Union on July 22. Over that span, the Black & Gold have posted a record of 7-0-2 while outscoring its opponents 23-8.

ZARDES MAKES CLUB HISTORY

Gyasi Zardes recorded his first brace for Crew SC in Saturday’s 3-2 win over the Montreal Impact at MAPFRE Stadium, making history in the process. Per the Elias Sports Bureau, with his goal in the 15th minute, Zardes became the first player in Crew SC history to score a goal in each of his first two regular-season matches for the Black & Gold. Zardes then scored the game-winning goal in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time when he converted a penalty kick, bringing his total to three goals in two regular-season appearances (all starts) for Crew SC in 2018.

HIGUAIN SCORES 50th GOAL

Midfielder Federico Higuain registered his 50th regular-season goal for Crew SC in Saturday’s 3-2 win over the Montreal Impact. The Argentine scored the opening goal of the match by converting a penalty kick in the 12th minute following a foul on Lalas Abubakar. With the goal, Higuain also brought his total to two goals in two regular-season appearances (all starts) in 2018.

HIGUAIN ON VERGE 50/50 CLUB

Federico Higuain’s strike against the Montreal Impact this past Saturday brought his total to 50 goals in 151 regular-season appearances (146) for Crew SC since joining the club in 2012. In that time, he has also registered 49 assists in regular-season action. Should Higuain provide one more assist in regular-season action, he would become the first player in Crew SC history to record at least 50 goals and 50 assists. Additionally, Higuain would join a very elite club of MLS players to achieve this, as only 18 other players have managed to accomplish this feat. Higuain would also become one of only two active players to have registered at least 50 goals and 50 assists, with Diego Valeri being the other player (58 goals, 53 assists).
