Wounded Warrior Project goes Casting with Crew SC

It’s time for our annual fishing trip presented by Kroger—Casting with Crew SC. On Wednesday, October 14, five Columbus players are teaming up with the Wounded Warrior Project and testing their angler skills.

Steve Clark, Chris Klute, Michael Parkhurst, Jack McInerney and defending champion, Ben Speas, will be competing at O’Shaughnessy Reservoir. Each player will partner with a veteran in a boat, hoping to hook some heavy fish.

"This is my third year. I might be the longest tenured fisherman from the Crew," Speas says. "So I'm excited to defend my title and it should be a fun time."

The boats include guides and gear provided by the Ohio Bass Federation, and the guides’ catches count as well. Speas says this is his key to victory.

"I think it's important to pick a good guide," he says. "And, obviously, it's nice to spend some time with the Wounded Warrior. It's fun to be out there with them."

Whichever group weighs in with the heaviest allotment of fish caught on the day wins. Each Wounded Warrior will receive a gift bag from Columbus Crew SC, with the winning Warrior taking home a grand prize.

The event is part of Crew SC’s Give Forward program, which is sponsored by MAPFRE Insurance.
