Crew SC preseason roster update: February 9, 2015

Preseason

Columbus Crew SC Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter announced preseason roster updates on Monday ahead of the team’s upcoming trip to Austin, Texas for the inaugural ATX Pro Challenge this weekend.

As part of the roster update, the club has waived second-year defender Ben Sweat. Sweat did not make an appearance during the 2014 season, but earned experience with the Dayton Dutch Lions in USL PRO, appearing in seven matches. He appeared in the Black & Gold’s 2014 international friendly versus Crystal Palace FC as a halftime substitute at leftback. Sweat made his professional debut in a start at leftback in the Fifth Round of the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament and added an assist in the clash against Chicago. He was selected in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft.

The Crew SC preseason roster now stands at 29 with 25 players under contract. Berhalter also announced on Monday that unsigned draft picks Sergio Campbell, Sagi Lev-Ari, Kalen Ryden and Tomas Gomez currently remain with the club after all four took part in the club’s first leg of preseason in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
