Gus Teren — U17 Head Coach

Gus Teren joined the Columbus Crew Academy as the U-19 Head Coach in 2020. Before moving to the Crew, Teren served as the Academy Technical Director (2019 - 2021) with the D.C. United Academy, where he worked from 2014 - 2020. He began his tenure in D.C. as the Assistant Coach for the Academy's U-13 and U-14 teams, before taking on the role of U-15 Head Coach (2015 - 16), the U13s, (2016 - 17), the U14s, (2017 - 19), and the U17s (2019 - 20). In addition to his experience at the youth level, Teren was also an assistant coach for Loudoun United FC – D.C. United’s reserve team - under Richie Williams for the 2019 season. He was also a member of D.C. United's Technical Staff during the 'MLS is Back' Tournament in Orlando, FL in July of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most recently, Teren has served as the U17 Head Coach for the past two seasons. During his time as the U17 Head Coach, the 17s have found success in advancing to the quarter-finals of the Generation Adidas Cup, while also making it to the final of the 2022 MLS NEXT Cup, falling just short to the Philadelphia Union. Despite the loss, two Crew players earned individual accolades due to their performances throughout the tournament: Giorgio DeLibera won MVP of the Tournament, while Stanislav Lapkes earned Goalkeeper of the Tournament honors.

Teren holds several coaching certifications including a USSF 'A' License and the Elite Formation Coaching License (EFCL), a partnership between MLS and the French Football Federation for elite MLS Academy coaches. Teren and his wife, Leslie, live in Dublin with their three sons, Tavi, Luca and Remy.
